Born
Sept. 9, 1955. Raised a native San Franciscan
who's musical background spans four decades.
I
began studying and playing piano in elementary school
at Nortre Dame des Victoires, and started to pursue
electric bass in bands along the way. It became
my instrument of choice. I have been influenced
by all styles of music, such as Buddy Rich, Duke
Ellington, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Glen
Campbell, all of whom I met at San Francisco's Bimbo's
365 Nightclub, along with opportunities to study
country-western, jazz, soul, rhythm and blues, and
rock-and-roll. I also identify strongly with ties
to the San Francisco music scene, famous for it's
improvisation and free form spirit.
I approach bass playing
by sensing whatever style the music calls for, arranging
music and vocal harmony within the band, and playing
with a natural feel for the bass, conscious of time,
groove and dynamics intended to attract the listener
and dancer. I always allow for uninhibited and creative
playing at all times, giving the music a chance
to be innovative and reactive to audience participation.
I currently play acoustic
upright bass and electric bass with "Kimosabes".
Other notable musicians I have played with or opened
for include:
